SENIOR CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER Location: Tunney, Germiston, Gauteng Industry: Engineering \/ Process Plants \/ Automation Employment Type: Permanent Work Arrangement: Hybrid Salary: Approximately R50,000 per month, negotiable depending on experience and qualifications Introduction An established specialist engineering organisation within the process plant and modular plant sector is seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Engineer to join its ECI (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, integration, testing and commissioning of control and automation systems for modular process plant projects. This is a senior technical position suited to an experienced Control Systems Engineer who is confident with PLC programming, SCADA\/HMI systems, industrial networking, commissioning and technical problem-solving, and who is comfortable interfacing directly with clients and project stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Control Systems Engineering • Lead control-system engineering activities on assigned projects. • Design, develop and implement PLC, SCADA and HMI control systems. • Perform PLC programming, system integration, testing and commissioning. • Review control-system designs, PLC code and technical engineering deliverables. • Provide technical input and support throughout the project lifecycle. Commissioning & Troubleshooting • Participate in industrial plant commissioning and start-up activities. • Troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, instrumentation and industrial communication systems. • Conduct fault-finding and resolve complex control and automation problems. • Support plant modifications, upgrades and optimisation initiatives. • Participate in local and international project commissioning. Client & Project Support • Interface directly with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders. • Provide technical guidance on control and automation solutions. • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams. • Take ownership of assigned technical activities and deliverables. Qualifications & Experience • BEng, BSc, BTech or National Diploma in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, Control Systems Engineering or a related discipline. • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in Control Systems, Automation or Industrial Process Control. • Strong PLC programming and commissioning experience. • SCADA\/HMI development experience. • Experience with industrial plant commissioning. • Strong control-system fault-finding and troubleshooting experience. • Valid driver's licence. • Willingness and ability to travel locally and internationally for commissioning and project requirements. Technical Skills Experience with one or more of the following: • Siemens S7 \/ TIA Portal. • Rockwell \/ Allen-Bradley. • ABB. • Ignition. • WinCC. • DCS. • Profibus. • Profinet. • EtherNet\/IP. • Modbus. • Variable Speed Drives (VSDs). Advantageous Experience • Mining or process plant experience. • Modular plant project experience. • Experience working across multiple PLC platforms. • DCS integration experience. • Industrial networking experience. • Functional safety \/ SIL experience. • ECSA professional registration. • International project and commissioning experience. Required Competencies • Strong technical and analytical problem-solving abilities. • Excellent PLC and automation skills. • Practical, hands-on commissioning experience. • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting ability. • Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical activities. • Good communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to engage professionally with clients and project stakeholders. • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment. • Willingness to travel locally and internationally when required.
