Job Purpose

The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government have two (2) opportunities for competent individuals to supervise the maintenance and building of roads.

Remuneration

R 201 093 - R 236 877 per annum (Salary Level 4)

Notes

All shortlisted candidates shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.

Responsibilities

Supervise the maintenance and building of roads; Inspect work, supervise and train workers; Handle and maintain machines and aids which are used for roads maintenance work and construction work; Plan and supervise maintenance and construction of roads, premises and building; Repair equipment in and to buildings, premises and roads; Undertake the safeguarding of work areas and construction machines in terms of the Health and Safety Act; Discipline subordinates and apply proper labour relations.

Requirements

Grade 10 (equivalent or higher qualification); A minimum of 3 years semi-skilled manual experience; A valid (Code EC) driving licence with professional drivers permit (PDP). 

Personal Qualities & Competencies

Good understanding of the maintenance and repair of defects on roads and within road reserves; Conflict and diversity management; Skills in the following: Communication (verbal and written); Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; Ability to work in a team; Self-motivated.
