POSITION INFO:
Fancourt, South Africa's premier golfing, leisure and lifestyle destination, is situated in George in the heart of the Garden Route. Join our Golf team and play a key role in delivering an exceptional caddie service and golf experience for every member and guest. We are looking for a professional, organised and service-driven Assistant Caddie Master to support the Caddie Master in the day-to-day operation of the caddie service. The role is responsible for ensuring caddies are effectively scheduled, allocated, briefed and managed in line with Fancourt's standards of service, professionalism and conduct. THE ROLE: Assist the Caddie Master with the daily caddie rotation, availability, attendance and allocations. Coordinate caddie requirements according to tee times, bookings, events, competitions and tournaments. Ensure fair and effective caddie coverage and rotation across members, resort guests, visitors and groups. Assist with reviewing the tee sheet, managing pre-bookings and responding to changing operational requirements. Monitor caddie punctuality, reliability, presentation and readiness. Brief caddies on relevant daily operational information and ensure they understand service, safety and course requirements. Maintain high standards of professional conduct, guest interaction, golf etiquette and compliance with club procedures. Manage caddie uniforms, resources and the cleanliness and organisation of the caddie staging area. Maintain accurate records of attendance, allocations, pre-bookings, backup payments, incidents and guest feedback. Communicate effectively with Golf Management, Golf Operations, Golf Concierge and the Caddie Team. Support the Caddie Master with the smooth running of the operation and take responsibility for designated operational areas as required. Act as the senior caddie representative on duty when the Caddie Master is unavailable. LEADERSHIP & TEAM SUPPORT: As Assistant Caddie Master, you will support the Caddie Master in creating a professional, fair and accountable working environment. You will be expected to: Support the Caddie Master in setting clear expectations and maintaining consistent standards. Provide guidance, constructive feedback and recognition. Monitor day-to-day performance and conduct and bring significant or recurring issues to the attention of the Caddie Master. Assist with resolving day-to-day team issues and escalate more serious matters appropriately. Promote teamwork, respect and accountability within the caddie team. Escalate serious or recurring matters to Golf Management when required. Step into a supervisory role when required and ensure the caddie operation continues to run effectively in the Caddie Master's absence. MEMBER & GUEST EXPERIENCE: The Assistant Caddie Master plays an important role in ensuring that the caddie service enhances the overall golf experience. You will: Promote a professional, knowledgeable and service-driven caddie team. Ensure caddies are prepared to meet member and guest requirements. Respond to caddie-related concerns and resolve routine issues where appropriate, referring more complex matters to the Caddie Master or Golf Management. Maintain Fancourt's high standards of service and professionalism at all times. Assist the Caddie Master in responding to member and guest feedback relating to the caddie service. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: Grade 12 or equivalent. Previous experience in golf operations, caddie management, hospitality or a related service environment. Strong knowledge of golf, golf etiquette and course operations. Experience working as part of a team, with previous supervisory or team-lead experience being advantageous. Strong communication, interpersonal and conflict-management skills. Ability to handle day-to-day team issues professionally and know when to escalate matters. Excellent organisational and administrative skills. Computer literacy. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment. A strong sense of fairness, teamwork, accountability and professionalism. A passion for golf and hospitality. Ability and willingness to take responsibility and make sound operational decisions within delegated authority. THE ENVIRONMENT: This is a hands-on operational support and supervisory role requiring flexibility and visibility within the golf operation. The position involves early mornings, weekends and public holidays, including tournaments, competitions and special events. You will spend significant time outdoors in varying weather conditions and must be able to respond effectively to changing and last-minute operational requirements. The Assistant Caddie Master will work closely with the Caddie Master and Golf Management, providing operational support and assuming additional responsibility when required, including during the Caddie Master's absence.
