Unitrans is looking for a hands-on, results-driven Workshop Manager to lead our technical team. This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the repair and maintenance of plant, machinery, and equipment, while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.

In this role, you will manage a team of skilled technicians and artisans, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently, on time, and to specification. You will play a key role in implementing and maintaining quality control procedures, optimising repair processes, and driving continuous improvement across the workshop.

• Lead, supervise, and develop a team of workshop technicians and artisans to ensure high performance and accountability.

• Manage the full fleet maintenance programme, ensuring all vehicles and equipment are serviced, repaired, and compliant with safety and operational standards.

• Maintain effective relationships with operations staff to align workshop support with business needs and minimise downtime.

• Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely procurement of quality parts and services at competitive prices.

• Monitor and control the workshop budget, ensuring vehicle maintenance and repair costs are kept within acceptable limits.

• Manage stores inventory, including stock levels of parts, tools, and equipment, to ensure availability without overstocking.

• Apply hands-on technical knowledge to oversee the maintenance of a haulage fleet, including trucks, trailers, and loading equipment.

• Ensure adherence to quality control, health and safety protocols, and company policies at all times.

• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop efficiency and fleet reliability.

What We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience in a similar role managing workshop operations, ideally within the logistics, transport, or heavy equipment sector.

• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance procedures.

• Experience managing and motivating a team in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• A commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence.

Qualifications:

• Trade Test Certificate (e.g., Diesel Mechanic, Fitter, or related qualification).

• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

• Valid driver’s licence.
