Warehouse Supervisor

The Role (or the engine room of Montego’s distribution)

Reporting to the Warehouse & Logistics Manager, you’ll help keep the warehouse humming — supervising day-to-day operations, safeguarding our stock, and making sure every load leaves accurate, on time, and up to standard.

You’ll lead a team, uphold our health, safety and food-safety standards, and bring a genuine appetite for continuous improvement to everything from receiving to returns.

What you’ll be doing (besides being brilliant)

Warehouse Operations & Stock Management

• Supervise warehousing processes in line with best practice and Standard Operating Procedures
• Monitor operational KPIs and feed concerns back to the Warehouse & Logistics Manager
• Keep OHS, hygiene, housekeeping, food-safety and merchandising standards firmly in place — and escalate any slips
• Keep an eye on the condition of the building — floors, walls, pipes — and flag maintenance needs
• Tighten receiving controls: spot-check deliveries, record shortages and overs, and investigate discrepancies
• Enforce best-practice stock management — pick-and-scan together, FEFO rotation, no mixing of batch numbers, frequent counts
• Manage out-of-stocks and overstocking, assist with cycle and full stock takes, and help minimise stock variances
• Administer warehouse damages per SOP, and drive a culture of continuous improvement with the team

Distribution Administration

• Provide input during planning reviews for on-time, cost-efficient delivery to customers
• Ensure timely picking, staging and loading of stock according to Route Planning priorities
• Investigate shortages, assign teams to trips, and rotate staff fairly
• Handle distribution paperwork — work and loading sheets, delivery notes, invoices, proof of delivery
• Check loads against the loading sheet and hand the driver the right documentation
• Assist with fuel management and weighbridge administration where relevant
• Debrief every load on return per SOP, and manage returns through the correct procedures

Fleet & Equipment Administration

• Monitor the condition of material-handling equipment and refer defects to the Warehouse & Logistics Manager
• Carry out daily and weekly vehicle inspections and complete the checklists with the driver
• Assist with arranging fleet and equipment maintenance

People Management

• Manage the attendance and performance of your direct reports, guiding, supporting and — when needed — taking appropriate disciplinary action
• Grow your team through on-the-job training and honest feedback
• Take part in selecting and appointing new team members
• Run regular meetings, plan and approve leave, capture timecards and manage overtime
• Live and demonstrate the Montego culture, day in and day out

Housekeeping, Health & Safety and Administration

• Keep all relevant administration up to date and report on warehouse and distribution performance against KPIs
• Uphold OHS and Food Safety (FSSC 22000) standards, and keep personal hygiene standards high
• Identify hazards and put corrective and preventative measures in place
• Spot improvement opportunities and work with the Warehouse & Logistics Manager to make them happen

What you’ll need to bring

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4); a Diploma in Supply Chain or Logistics (NQF Level 6) is advantageous
• 3–5 years’ experience in warehousing and distribution, stock movement and stock control — ideally in FMCG
• 2 years’ people-management experience
• A valid Code B driver’s licence
• A forklift licence and/or a Code C1 (10) or EC (14) licence — advantageous

The fine print

This is a hands-on operational role. The incumbent is required to work extended hours and overtime, and to take on additional tasks in line with operational requirements — sometimes at short notice and outside normal working hours.
