Supervisor, Ocean Export, Air & Sea

Main Purpose of the Role:

• The Ocean Export Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the Ocean Export department, ensuring that all export shipments are processed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with customer requirements, company procedures, and industry regulations.
• The role provides operational leadership to the team by driving performance, maintaining service quality, and ensuring that departmental objectives and customer expectations are consistently achieved. 
• A critical aspect of the role is building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, carriers, overseas offices, transport providers, and internal stakeholders.
• Through regular customer engagement and performance monitoring, the supervisor ensures SLA and KPi commitments are met while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, operational efficiencies, and business growth.

Job Related Requirements:

• Grade 12
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in ocean freight forwarding Import and Export
• Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role
• Own Transport
• Ability to work overtime / after hours when required
• Leadership courses (DSV talent pool etc.) OR Management programs – advantage

Electives

• Knowledge of current Incoterms
• Knowledge of international freight forwarding
• Excellent communication skills
• Good planning and self-management skills
• Knowledge of Hazardous/Dangerous Goods

Duties & Responsibilities

• Run with daily exception reports for operations and manage with staff
• Manage productivity daily / weekly / monthly
• Drive internal and external metrics daily / weekly
• Evaluate service levels weekly / monthly
• Customer relationship management and service delivery excellence.
• Process compliance, data quality, and operational governance.
• Continuous improvement and efficiency enhancement initiatives
• Processing of ocean export shipments – end to end
• To drive metric performance
• To support sales in their objectives in achieving growth targets
• To support operations with queries and manage customer expectations
• Identify and target opportunities for improved effiencies
• Identifying problems in a project design and evaluating alternative methods
• Directly supervising staff
• To ensure accurate and timely reporting
• To identify improvements on processes within operations to drive efficiency
• To manage any new processes or system developments with operations
• To manage staff and career development to ensure the retention of key staff and their progress within the organization
