Senior Database Administrator (SQL Server | Azure) (iOCO0183)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join a leading banking client on a 6-month contract. This role is based in Johannesburg with a hybrid working model and will focus on managing and optimizing a complex SQL Server environment spanning both cloud and on-premise platforms.  

What you'll do:

• Manage and support SQL Server environments across Azure and on-premise platforms.
• Ensure database availability, security, backup/recovery and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Lead database performance tuning, troubleshooting and optimisation initiatives.
• Support cloud migration, database modernisation and operational improvements.
• Act as a senior technical resource for database-related incidents and escalations.

Your Expertise:

• 7+ years' experience as a Database Administrator, including senior-level experience.
• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration, including installation, upgrades, HA/DR, security and database management.
• Extensive Microsoft Azure experience (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure VMs). Environment is approximately 80% cloud and 20% on-premise.
• Proven performance tuning and optimisation experience, including query tuning, execution plans, indexing strategies, Query Store, deadlock resolution and capacity planning.
• Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud environments and cloud migration projects.  
• Strong T-SQL and database automation skills.

• AWS database administration exposure.
• Experience with DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and database automation tools.

• Relevant Degree: Computer Science, IT, Engineering or similar
• Azure certifications (DP-300, AZ-104, AZ-305).
• Relevant MS/ DBA Certifications
