Junior Value Engineer

The Junior Value Engineer provides entry-level analytical, research, and project support to value engineering initiatives across the Shoprite Group. The role assists with gathering and organising operational information, documenting current processes, supporting basic analysis, and contributing to improvement activities that enhance the function-to-cost ratio of products, processes, systems, and technologies. Working under guidance, the Junior Value Engineer supports the team in identifying cost drivers, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve operational performance, reduce waste, and support cost-efficient solutions.

The Junior Value Engineer provides entry-level analytical, research, and project support to value engineering initiatives across the Shoprite Group. Working under guidance, the Junior Value Engineer supports the team in identifying cost drivers, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve operational performance, reduce waste, and support cost-efficient solutions.

What you'll do

• Assist with collecting, organising, and validating operational, cost, and process information to support value engineering activities. 

• Document current-state processes, data inputs, observations, and findings to support analysis and improvement recommendations. 

• Support basic process mapping, time studies, layout observations, and data analysis under the guidance of Value Engineers and Senior Value Engineers. 

• Assist with identifying inefficiencies, cost drivers, risks, and opportunities for improvement within allocated work areas. 

• Prepare data summaries, meeting notes, basic reports, and supporting documentation for review by more senior team members. 

• Support the tracking of project actions, milestones, and deliverables to enable timely execution of value engineering initiatives. 

• Engage with internal stakeholders to request information, confirm requirements, and clarify operational details as required. 

• Maintain accurate records, templates, and project documentation in line with team standards and governance requirements. 

• Stay informed about basic value engineering, industrial engineering, and continuous improvement methods and apply learnings to assigned tasks. 

What you bring

• Degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering, Operations Management, Business Analytics, or a related field or Diploma and 1-3 years’ relevant experience in industrial engineering, process improvement, operations, logistics, analytics, or project support (essential). 

• Exposure to data gathering, process documentation, reporting, and basic analysis methods (essential). 

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including Excel and PowerPoint (essential). 

• Exposure to Lean, continuous improvement, value engineering, or process optimisation concepts (advantageous).
