Junior IT Specialist Mbombela (Nelspruit), Mpumalanga PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Junior IT Specialist provides first- and second-line technical support to users and helps maintain the organisation's computers, network, systems and security. The role keeps day-to-day IT operations running smoothly, resolves faults quickly, and supports senior IT staff with infrastructure, projects and documentation. It is ideal for a motivated person early in their IT career who wants hands-on exposure across support, networking, Microsoft 365 and cybersecurity. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES End-user and helpdesk support Log, prioritise and resolve support tickets by phone, email, remote session and in person within agreed turnaround times. Troubleshoot hardware, software, printer, email and connectivity problems for desktops, laptops, mobile devices and peripherals. Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff or vendors with clear notes on what has been tested. Hardware and software Install, image, configure and upgrade workstations, laptops, printers, scanners and VoIP phones. Install and update operating systems, apply patches and updates on a scheduled basis. Perform basic repairs and component replacements, manage warranty claims with suppliers. Network and infrastructure support Monitor and support the LAN, Wi-Fi, switches, routers and firewalls under supervision. Assist with connectivity issues and liaise with internet service providers. Support servers and cloud services under the guidance of senior staff. Microsoft 365 and user administration Manage user accounts, passwords, licences, mailboxes, shared mailboxes and distribution groups. Set up and support Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint access and permissions. Security, backup and compliance Monitor antivirus\/endpoint protection, enforce password policies and multi-factor authentication. Run and verify daily backups, report phishing attempts and handle personal information in line with IT policies. Asset management and documentation Maintain an accurate IT asset register, keep network diagrams, procedures and the IT knowledge base up to date. Track IT consumables, prepare simple reports on tickets and outstanding issues. Projects and continuous improvement Assist with IT projects, suggest improvements, keep up to date with new technologies and complete training and certifications. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Area Minimum requirement: Grade 12\/National Senior Certificate Advantageous: BSc IT\/BTech\/Advanced Diploma in IT Certifications At least one entry-level certification required Advantageous: CompTIA Network+, ITIL 4 Foundation, etc. Experience 6 months - 2 years in desktop\/helpdesk support Exposure to AD, Microsoft 365 administration, networking, backups License Valid Code B (08) driver's licence Languages Fluent in English and Afrikaans TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Windows 10\/11, Microsoft 365, basic networking, printer and peripheral setup, remote-support tools, ticketing systems, etc. SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Strong problem-solving skills Good communication abilities Customer-service orientated Organised and trustworthy Willing to learn and grow Team player KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Tickets resolved within SLA User satisfaction Daily backups and restores Accuracy of documentation Patch and antivirus compliance Reduction in repeat faults WORKING CONDITIONS Office-based role with some lifting of equipment.
