Job Advert Summary

We require the services of a qualified Turner in our Repairs Department.

The successful candidate will manufacture, repair and recondition precision components by setting up and operating manual and/or CNC lathes in accordance with engineering drawings, samples, Bills of Material (BOMs), damage reports and approved scopes of work.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• To manufacture components to suit new and repaired cylinders.
• An understanding of cylinders and their applications.
• Setting up and operating manual and/or CNC lathes to turn, bore, thread, face, taper and groove metal and other approved workpieces.
• The ability to Interpret engineering drawings, samples, specifications, tolerances, Bills of Material (BOMs), damage reports and scopes of work to determine machining requirements.
• Select, install, set and change cutting tools, inserts, chucks, fixtures and other tooling appropriate to the job.
• Verify critical dimensions, tolerances, threads and surface condition against drawings, samples or approved specifications.
• Comply with applicable occupational health and safety requirements, company procedures and workshop rules.
• Accurately complete job cards and machining times as required.
• Identify non-conforming work, stop the process where necessary and report deviations before further processing to Foreman or Repairs Manager.
• Communicate effectively with assessors, fitters, Foreman, quality personnel and other workshop employees to ensure correct job execution.

• Recognised Trade Test / National Trade Qualification as a Turner, Fitter and Turner, Machinist or equivalent relevant trade.
• 3-5 years' relevant post-trade machining experience in a precision engineering, manufacturing or repair environment.
• Good understanding of tooling and their application.
• Cylinder /-components manufacturing experience.
• Must be able to work under pressure.
• Must be able to meet strict deadlines.
• Must be willing to work overtime.
• Good attention to detail.
