ROLE OVERVIEW:
To manufacture, repair, maintain and refurbish mechanical components and equipment used in fishing operations, cold storage facilities, and marine vessels.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Machining and Fabrication
- Operate conventional and/or CNC lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinding equipment.
- Manufacture and repair shafts, bushes, sleeves, bearings, pulleys, couplings, and other mechanical components.
- Perform precision measurements using micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, and other measuring instruments.
2. Maintenance and Repairs
- Conduct maintenance and repair work on fish processing equipment and factory machinery.
- Assist with breakdown repairs to minimize operational downtime.
- Refurbish worn mechanical components to extend equipment life.
- Support planned maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedules.
3. Vessel and Marine Support
- Carry out machining and repair work on vessel components where required.
- Repair shafts, pump components, winch parts, hydraulic system components, and other marine equipment.
Assist during vessel maintenance periods and dry-docking activities
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade Test Certificate as a Turner Artisan (Red Seal preferred).
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' post-trade experience in a marine, fishing, or engineering environment.
- Experience operating conventional lathes and milling machines.
- Marine or fishing industry experience will be advantageous.
