Job Description

iqbusiness is seeking to employ a Technical Product Manager on a 12-month contract to collaborate with an international partner from our offices in Welgemoed, Cape Town, Northern Suburbs. This is a hybrid role (3 days on-site; 2 days WFH).

We are looking for a Technical Product Manager to join our digital product team to help support, influence and drive the vision. In this role, you will ensure our web experiences are managed as evolving products rather than isolated projects. At the intersection of customer needs, business objectives, user experience, and technology, you will decide what to build, why it matters, how it creates value, and how we measure success.

You will take responsibility of the digital experience from discovery through delivery, adoption, and optimisation. Working closely with Engineering, UX/UI, QA, Analytics, Marketing, Content, and business stakeholders, you will operate in a fast-moving environment balancing short-term business needs with longer-term platform priorities. The ideal candidate can shape ambiguous briefs into clear requirements, make transparent prioritisation decisions, and foster alignment across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Roadmap:

  • Support, influence and drive the product vision and roadmap for customer-facing digital experiences
  • Translate organisational strategy, customer needs, and commercial objectives into clear product priorities
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer journeys, conversion, engagement, retention, and the overall digital experience
  • Balance short-term business needs with longer-term platform and technical priorities
  • Reassess priorities continuously using customer feedback, analytics, technical constraints, and business value

Product Discovery & Journey Ownership:

  • Identify and define customer and business problems before solutions are committed to development
  • Partner with UX, research, analytics, and stakeholders to validate opportunities, define hypotheses, and establish success criteria
  • Own and continuously improve key customer journeys across the website and related digital touchpoints
  • Identify journey friction, advocate for customer needs, and support experimentation, usability testing, and A/B testing

Technical Product Management & Backlog:

  • Work closely with engineering teams to translate product requirements into technically feasible solutions
  • Understand platform architecture, integrations, APIs, CMS capabilities, data flows, and technical dependencies to guide product decisions
  • Weigh trade-offs between speed, scalability, maintainability, performance, and customer experience, while balancing feature development with technical debt
  • Ensure accessibility, performance, security, scalability, and reliability are embedded throughout product development
  • Own and maintain the product backlog, defining clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and expected outcomes

Delivery, Optimisation & Stakeholder Management:

  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, QA, and UX/UI to support iterative and incremental delivery
  • Define measurable success criteria and KPIs, using analytics and customer feedback post-release to drive continuous optimisation
  • Act as the primary product representative, translating technical considerations into clear business implications
  • Challenge solution-led requests where underlying customer or business problems are not sufficiently defined
  • Communicate roadmap decisions, progress, risks, and product outcomes transparently to senior stakeholders

Requirements

:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (nice-to-have)
  • 5+ years (or equivalent demonstrated experience) managing digital products, websites, platforms, or customer-facing technology
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with software engineers, UX/UI designers, and QA teams in an Agile environment
  • Proven track record of defining product visions, managing product backlogs, and prioritising roadmaps
  • Solid grasp of modern web product development, customer journey design, and software delivery practices
  • Experience leveraging analytics, behavioural data, and experimentation to inform product decisions
  • Experience with B2C digital products or high-traffic customer-facing websites (advantageous)
  • Experience in E-commerce, education, subscription services, marketplaces, or transactional digital experiences (advantageous)
  • Conversion rate optimisation (CRO) and customer journey mapping experience (advantageous)
  • Strong delivery and project management capability is required, with the ability to plan and drive initiatives from discovery through execution, manage timelines, dependencies, risks and stakeholders, and ensure work progresses to successful completion.

Skills Required:

  • Driven by measurable outcomes (conversion, engagement, adoption) rather than project completion output
  • Able to translate complex user and business needs into actionable, data-informed product decisions
  • Sufficient technical depth to engage with engineers on platform architecture, data flows, and technical trade-offs
  • Capable of managing competing stakeholder interests transparently using customer value and effort frameworks
  • Strong partner to engineering, design, and business functions; unblocks teams and removes ambiguity
  • Able to translate technical constraints into business risks and present design/product rationale to non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, continuously re-evaluating priorities, and advocating for product health
  • Delivery and project management skills are essential for this role. The successful candidate must be able to structure and drive initiatives end-to-end, managing timelines, dependencies, risks, stakeholders and cross-functional delivery alongside their product management responsibilities.

Note: As all business roles require honesty in the handling of or access to cash, finances, financial systems, or confidential information, our recruitment process requires that the following background checks be completed: credit, criminal, ID, and qualification verification.

iqbusiness is committed to sustainable growth and transformation; we embrace diversity and employ previously disadvantaged individuals.
