Drive Operational Excellence

• Lead the implementation of operational efficiency initiatives, workflows, and laboratory methodologies as guided by the Area Laboratory Manager (ALM).
• Monitor laboratory performance and provide feedback on continuous improvement opportunities.
• Support the successful implementation of NRL and POIM processes and methodologies.
• Ensure effective resource allocation, workforce planning, and cost-effective laboratory operations.
• Coordinate and support the successful rollout of new laboratory equipment and technologies.

Champion Quality and Compliance

• Maintain and strengthen the laboratory's quality management systems and processes.
• Support accreditation activities, including SANAS and internal audit requirements.
• Collaborate with Total Quality Management (TQM) teams to drive adherence to quality standards.
• Facilitate internal and external audits and report on compliance, quality performance, and improvement initiatives.

Manage Financial Performance

• Execute and monitor the laboratory budget in line with business objectives and financial guidelines.
• Analyse operational costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost savings.
• Support flexible workforce planning while ensuring compliance with BCEA requirements.
• Contribute to the laboratory's profitability through sound financial and operational decision-making.

Lead, Develop and Inspire People

• Drive recruitment, onboarding, training, and succession planning initiatives.
• Foster a coaching culture that supports employee growth, performance, and engagement.
• Implement and monitor performance management processes, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Provide regular feedback, clear expectations, and development opportunities for team members.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment focused on exceptional customer service.

Ensure Effective People Management

• Partner with Talent Acquisition and People Practice teams to recruit and retain top talent.
• Manage workforce planning, employee leave, and other people-related administrative processes.
• Address employee relations matters and disciplinary processes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Deliver Meaningful Reporting and Insights

• Prepare regular operational reports and performance reviews for the ALM.
• Provide insights on key laboratory metrics, including quality performance, operational efficiencies, staffing, and financial outcomes.
• Use data to identify trends and support informed decision-making.

What you'll bring

Qualifications

Required:

• Relevant Medical Technology qualification and/or certification.
• Current HPCSA registration.
• Demonstrated leadership capability and potential to lead teams effectively.

Experience

Required:

• Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Medical Technologist, Medical Technician, or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a pathology laboratory environment.

Skills & Knowledge

Required:

• Advanced knowledge of pathology testing procedures, methodologies, and instrumentation.
• Strong understanding of laboratory quality management systems and technical processes.
• Knowledge of HPCSA, SANAS, and Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) regulations.
• Sound computer literacy, including MS Outlook, MS Windows, and Excel.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make sound decisions.
• Ability to utilise technology effectively to support laboratory operations and reporting.

Advantageous:

• Knowledge of the Meditech system.
• Understanding of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Employment Equity Act, and Labour Relations Act.
• Knowledge of people management practices, including employee development, coaching, motivation, and performance management.
• Understanding of financial management principles, budgeting, cost control, and expense reporting.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to understand operational and market factors impacting laboratory performance.
• Financial acumen with the ability to identify and implement cost-effective solutions while supporting business objectives.
