Job Description

Senior / FET Teacher Talent Community

Inspire Potential. Shape Futures. Keep Growing.

Abbotts High School is an IEB high school (Grade 8 to 12) focused on helping students achieve academic success through a personalised, supportive and future-focused approach to education. With campuses across Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town, Abbotts is known for creating environments where students are encouraged to be themselves, take ownership of their learning and build confidence in their future.

As part of the Advtech Schools Division, Abbotts combines the agility and student-centred culture of a specialised high school with the expertise, innovation and resources of Africa's leading private education group.

At Abbotts, we believe that every student can achieve success when they are challenged appropriately, supported personally and taught by passionate educators who genuinely care about their growth and development.

We are not currently recruiting for specific teaching positions. However, as our schools continue to grow, we are proactively building a community of exceptional educators who may be interested in future opportunities with us.

If you are passionate about academic excellence, student development and future-focused education, we would love to hear from you.

Why Consider Abbotts?

Be part of a leader in educational innovation

As part of Advtech, educators at Abbotts benefit from the scale, expertise and investment of a broader educational ecosystem whilst working in a school environment that values individuality, innovation and student success.

Our approach to education is both ambitious and practical. We aim to equip students not only for examination success, but for the opportunities and challenges that lie beyond school.

At Abbotts, innovation means:

  • Using data to better understand and support every learner.
  • Leveraging technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Accessing world-class assessment and learning tools that support student growth.
  • Exploring emerging AI-enabled solutions that improve efficiency and free up more time for meaningful teaching.
  • Creating engaging learning experiences that build confidence, independence and resilience.
  • Preparing students for a rapidly changing world beyond the classroom.

We believe technology and data should never replace great teaching. Instead, they should strengthen it.

Access world-class teaching and learning tools

Educators within Advtech benefit from access to leading teaching, assessment and learning platforms designed to support student growth and academic success.

These include:

  • Internationally benchmarked assessment and diagnostic tools.
  • Learning analytics that support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Digital learning platforms that strengthen engagement and mastery.
  • Emerging AI-supported tools designed to enhance planning, assessment and feedback.
  • Resources that support differentiated learning and personalised intervention.

Teachers are empowered with meaningful insights that enable them to support students more effectively and maximise academic achievement.

Never stop growing

One of the greatest advantages of joining Advtech is access to SIRIUS, our dedicated Centre of Teaching and Learning Excellence.

SIRIUS was created on a simple belief: exceptional teaching is developed through continuous learning.

Through SIRIUS, educators have opportunities to engage in:

  • Professional development programmes
  • Specialist workshops
  • Micro-courses
  • Leadership development
  • Future-focused teaching practices
  • Research-informed educational innovation
  • Collaboration with educators across the wider group

Whether you are an experienced teacher or earlier in your career, continual growth is part of the journey.

Join a broader community of educators

Few education organisations can offer access to the breadth of expertise available across Advtech.

Our educators benefit from:

  • Collaboration with peers across multiple school brands.
  • Access to specialist academic expertise and support.
  • Shared best practice from a wide network of educators.
  • Exposure to innovative teaching approaches and educational technologies.
  • Professional growth pathways that support both classroom excellence and future leadership opportunities.

When you join Abbotts, you become part of something bigger than a single school.

Meaningful benefits for educators and their families

We know that education is deeply personal.

As part of Advtech, eligible employees may have access to education-related benefits that support learning opportunities for family members across schools and tertiary institutions within the group, in accordance with applicable policies and conditions.

For many educators, this reflects our belief that investing in our people should extend beyond the workplace.

A career, not just a job

Abbotts forms part of a diverse education group encompassing leading school brands, online learning environments and a growing tertiary education ecosystem.

This creates opportunities for professional development, collaboration and career growth that extend well beyond a single role or campus.

For educators who are ambitious, curious and committed to lifelong learning, the possibilities are significant.

Who We Are Looking For

We are interested in connecting with educators who:

  • Put students at the centre of everything they do.
  • Have a passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
  • Believe in balancing academic rigour with meaningful student support.
  • Embrace innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Are excited by the possibilities of technology-enabled learning.
  • Use evidence and insight to improve student outcomes.
  • Value collaboration and professional growth.
  • Are adaptable, resilient and future-focused.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and accountability.
  • Believe that learning never stops, for students or teachers.
  • Have a proven ability to inspire students to achieve academic success and exceed expectations, supported by evidence of strong learner outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a track record of achieving excellent academic results, including strong Grade 12 performance, subject averages benchmarked against IEB outcomes, distinctions achieved, and measurable student growth.

Qualifications & Experience

While we are not currently recruiting for specific teaching vacancies, we are interested in connecting with educators who would meet the typical requirements for future teaching opportunities within Abbotts High School.

Prospective candidates would generally be expected to have:

  • A degree (NQF Level 7) and PGCE, or a Bachelor of Education (FET), with specialisation in the subjects to be taught.
  • Current SACE registration.
  • A valid police clearance.
  • Between 2 and 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Between 2 and 5 years of specialist subject teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching within an IEB environment is preferred.
  • Strong computer and digital literacy skills.
  • Confidence using educational technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • A willingness to embrace innovation and continuous professional development.
  • A commitment to learner-centred teaching and academic excellence.

Our Promise

At Abbotts, you will have the opportunity to work in a school that combines academic standards with genuine care for students as individuals.

You will be supported by a broader organisation that invests in people, professional growth, innovation and educational excellence.

Most importantly, you will join a community that is committed to helping students become confident, capable and optimistic about their future.

Teach.

Inspire.

Grow.

Lead.

We are not currently advertising specific teaching vacancies. Instead, we are building a community of talented, future-focused educators who may be considered for opportunities as they arise.

If your qualifications, experience and aspirations align with the vision of Abbotts High School, we invite you to submit your details and join our educator talent community.

Today's application may not be for an immediate opportunity, but it could be the beginning of your future career journey with Advtech.
