Department: Operations Main Purpose of the Position We are seeking a hands-on and proactive Supervisor to manage the day-to-day operations of a container depot. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining operational efficiency, ensuring high housekeeping standards, supporting yard supervisors, and enforcing health and safety procedures while ensuring operational targets are met. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric). Minimum 3 years' supervisory experience in a container depot, logistics, transport, or a similar operational environment. Good understanding of container depot operations. Strong leadership and staff management abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy, particularly MS Office. Ability to work under pressure and meet operational deadlines. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements. A valid 9-ton empty handler licence will be an added advantage. Key Responsibilities Conduct daily diesel dip checks. Carry out daily machinery inspections in conjunction with yard supervisors and drivers. Maintain yard cleanliness, housekeeping standards, correct container stacking, and general site maintenance. Identify and locate containers using unit numbers and retrieve off-hire and sale units. Monitor and manage traffic flow to minimise congestion at the boom gate and along the feeder road. Provide relief for yard supervisors during lunch breaks to ensure continuous operations. Conduct toolbox talks and ensure adherence to all health and safety policies and procedures. Ensure effective shift handovers and communicate operational updates clearly. Monitor operational performance and ensure productivity targets and deadlines are achieved. Lead, guide, and support operational staff to maintain efficient daily operations. Promote workplace discipline, teamwork, accountability, and continuous operational improvement.
