SPRAY PAINTING DEPARTMENT MANAGER

Hire Resolve's client, a Cape Town-based manufacturer of premium, design-led outdoor products, is seeking an experienced Spray Painting Department Manager to oversee and optimize its industrial spray painting and surface finishing department.

The successful candidate will manage daily production, ensure high-quality finishes, lead the team and maintain efficient, safe operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and coordinate daily production schedules and workflow.
• Supervise spray painting equipment, maintenance and operational performance.
• Manage paint, solvents, consumables and PPE inventory.
• Monitor production output, labour efficiency, downtime and material wastage.
• Ensure finished products meet quality, coating and colour specifications.
• Oversee paint mixing, colour matching and coating processes.
• Identify and resolve technical issues and minimise rework.
• Recruit, train, supervise and develop spray painters and paint mixers.
• Implement quality control, health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Maintain production records, ERP data and relevant safety documentation.
• Monitor departmental KPIs and implement process improvements.

• Minimum 3 years' experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Experience in industrial spray painting or surface finishing.
• Experience in automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery or high-end furniture manufacturing advantageous.
• Engineering Diploma in Chemical or Industrial Engineering is required.
• Surface coating technology certification or relevant trade test advantageous.
• Strong leadership, organisational and conflict-resolution skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, particularly regarding colour and finish quality.
• Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
