Senior Front End Developer

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Frontend Engineer to join their technology team in Stellenbosch on a contract basis.

POSITION INFO:
What you will be doing: Help shape frontend architecture and establish reusable development patterns across the team. Make technical decisions and communicate the reasoning, benefits and trade-offs behind them. Design frontend applications and architecture that support scalability and long-term platform requirements. Contribute to the ongoing frontend rewrite and the long-term technical direction of the platform. Identify technical risks, dependencies and technical debt, and drive their resolution. Design, build and maintain complex frontend applications using React. Take ownership of technical initiatives and projects from initial concept through to delivery. Collaborate with other engineers to deliver complex functionality. Work effectively within large and complex codebases. Contribute to the broader technology stack as the team moves towards full-stack engineering. Review code and ensure adherence to development standards, design patterns and best practices. Improve development practices, code quality, application performance and maintainability. Investigate complex technical problems and drive them through to resolution. Collaborate with backend engineers to establish clear boundaries between frontend and backend systems. Integrate frontend applications with APIs and backend services. Provide practical technical guidance to other engineers. Mentor intermediate engineers and assist them in resolving technical challenges. Take responsibility for specific technical areas to support team delivery. Contribute to technical discussions, communicate technical recommendations and remain open to alternative approaches. Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives and help improve the team's technical capabilities. What we are looking for: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field. Approximately 7+ years of professional software development experience . Strong hands-on experience with ReactJS . Strong knowledge of JavaScript and\/or TypeScript . Experience designing and implementing frontend architecture at scale. Deep understanding of component architecture, state management and application structure. Experience integrating frontend applications with APIs and backend services. Strong understanding of testing, application performance and maintainability. Experience working with large or complex codebases. Strong Git and code review experience. Experience applying software engineering standards, design patterns and best practices. Ability to identify and manage technical risks, dependencies and technical debt. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to make independent technical decisions and explain the reasoning behind them. Experience taking ownership of projects and technical initiatives from concept through to delivery. Technical leadership experience, including guiding engineering decisions and improving development practices. Coaching and mentoring skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to collaborate with frontend and backend engineers in a delivery-focused environment. Relevant certifications in frontend or web development technologies.
