Job Description

What the Herd is about

Flash is a well-established brand and part of Pepkor, with a global strategy and a clear purpose: making people’s lives easier.

We use frontier technology to create opportunities and build products and services that make a real difference in people’s everyday lives.

Our three values are the heartbeat of our business:

  • We are all in
  • We have each other’s backs
  • We are brave

They shape how we work, how we show up for one another and the kind of culture we’re building. A place where people can do meaningful work, feel supported to do their best and have the freedom to make an impact.

If you’re excited by meaningful problems, smart people and building brands and products that improve everyday lives, we’d love to meet you.

Why this role matters

As our Senior Financial Analyst, you’ll lead divisional financial analysis, commercial modelling, and strategic planning across Flash Group’s payments and value-added services portfolio, translating complex commercial structures into actionable insights that drive revenue growth, margin optimisation, and operational performance.

What you’ll own

  • Lead the division’s annual budgeting, forecasting, and three-year strategic planning process in collaboration with divisional management, continuously monitoring performance against targets and reforecasting as required.
  • Determine, negotiate, and manage downstream commercial structures and settlement terms for partners
  • Evaluate and structure upstream commercial terms for new product and service acquisitions.
  • Conduct granular commercial agreement modelling, breaking down complex multi-party arrangements into component-level economics to analyse and optimise terms, margins, and profitability.
  • Prepare and present investment cases, product viability assessments, and cost-benefit analyses to the Director and Executive Team, supporting strategic decision-making on new initiatives and partnerships.
  • Build and maintain performance dashboards and KPI frameworks, ensuring accuracy and integrity of divisional data, and translating analytical insights into actionable recommendations for management.
  • Manage and develop a team of financial analysts, providing coaching, performance oversight, and career development support to build analytical capability within the division.
  • Collaborate with product, operations, and technology stakeholders to assess product feasibility, design system-based financial controls, and ensure commercial outcomes are reflected accurately in transaction flows.
  • Identify and drive opportunities for efficiency improvements and bottom-line enhancement across the division, proactively seeking commercial optimisation levers.
  • Oversee divisional risk management in collaboration with the Group risk function, including identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial and operational risks.

Requirements

Experience we’re looking for

  • CA(SA) or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Bachelor of Accounting Honours degree (or equivalent).
  • 7+ years post-articles experience in financial analysis, commercial finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing or mentoring junior analysts.
  • Working knowledge of databases for large-scale data analysis.
  • Advanced financial modelling and scenario analysis.
  • Expert-level Excel skills.
  • Commercial agreement structuring and margin/unit economics analysis.
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying large transactional datasets.
  • Understanding of payments infrastructure: transaction flows, settlement, clearing, and reconciliation.

Bonus points if you have…

  • Power BI or equivalent data visualisation and dashboarding tools.
  • Knowledge of South African payments ecosystem including aggregation, bill payments, airtime distribution, and voucher platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience in payments, fintech, or digital services industries.

You’ll thrive in the Herd if you have…

  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to assess financial viability, negotiate terms, and structure deals that optimise margins across a complex product portfolio.
  • Analytical Thinking: Systematically breaks down complex data and commercial structures to identify trends, risks, and opportunities that inform strategic decisions.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Communicates financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders, including senior leadership and external partners, to drive alignment and action.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintains accuracy and rigour across financial models, dashboards, and reporting, ensuring data integrity underpins all decision-making.
  • Strategic Orientation: Connects day-to-day financial analysis to broader divisional and company strategy, proactively identifying growth levers and efficiency gains.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment where product portfolios, partner relationships, and commercial structures change frequently.
  • People Leadership: Coaches and develops junior analysts, fostering accountability, technical growth, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Problem Solving: Approaches challenges with a solutions-oriented mindset, balancing speed and thoroughness to deliver actionable outcomes under pressure.

  • Corporate Social Investment events and opportunities to give back.
  • Free on-site parking.
