🚀 We're Hiring: Senior Android Mobile Engineer (DevOps)

The Lesaka Merchant Division is looking for a Senior Android Mobile Engineer (DevOps) to join our growing technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative Point of Sale and payment solutions that empower merchants and small businesses across South Africa.

Working alongside experienced engineering leaders and a dedicated QA team, you will play a key role in designing, building, and scaling mobile solutions while influencing architecture decisions, mentoring developers, and driving engineering excellence.

💼Purpose of the Role

The Senior Android Mobile Engineer (DevOps) will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimising Android applications deployed on custom Android devices.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to build secure, scalable, and high-performing applications while contributing to software architecture, DevOps processes, and continuous improvement initiatives that support a world-class engineering environment.

🔍Key Responsibilities

Software Development & Architecture

Design, build, and maintain high-quality Android applications.
Develop scalable, reusable, and maintainable software solutions.
Translate business and technical requirements into robust development solutions.
Design and implement application architecture and technical frameworks.
Ensure application security, performance, stability, and responsiveness.
Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, issues, and performance bottlenecks.
Develop intuitive, user-centric interfaces that enhance the customer experience.

Technical Leadership

Drive projects and technical initiatives from concept through delivery.
Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
Act as a technical subject matter expert within the mobile engineering team.
Establish and promote Android development standards and best practices.
Mentor and support team members through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Assist with development planning, estimation, and technical prioritisation.

DevOps & Continuous Improvement

Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
Contribute to automation, quality assurance, and release management initiatives.
Maintain code quality, testing, version control, and documentation standards.
Participate in production support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and development practices.
Drive engineering excellence through innovation and continuous improvement.

🎓Qualifications & Experience

Requirements

BSc, BEng, BA Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related qualification.

Experience Required

Minimum 7 years' Android application development experience.
Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying complex Android applications.
Experience working within Agile development environments.
Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD deployment methodologies.
Experience working with custom Android devices and integrated hardware solutions will be advantageous.
Experience mentoring developers and providing technical leadership within engineering teams.

Technical Competencies

Advanced Android application development expertise.
Strong Kotlin and Java development experience.
Deep understanding of Android SDK and Android platform architecture.
Experience supporting multiple Android versions and device form factors.
Strong knowledge of Android UI principles and best practices.
Experience integrating third-party APIs and backend services.
Experience with local databases, offline storage, and synchronisation.
Strong understanding of threading and mobile performance optimisation.
Familiarity with cloud messaging and push notification frameworks.
Ability to resolve complex technical issues and code conflicts.
Strong source control and collaborative development experience.
