Job Description

SHEQ Lead - SAP S/4HANA Implementation

Location:  Johannesburg

Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract

  • An established, large-scale organisation is seeking an experienced SHEQ Lead to represent the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality function on a major SAP S/4HANA implementation programme.
  • This is a business transformation role rather than a traditional site-based SHEQ position. You will be responsible for ensuring that SHEQ business processes, regulatory requirements, operational controls, data and reporting needs are accurately incorporated into the SAP solution.
  • Working closely with business stakeholders, operational sites, Group SHEQ leadership, SAP functional teams and implementation partners, you will help shape future-state processes, validate solution designs and ensure that the system supports safe, compliant and efficient operations across a complex, multi-site environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead SHEQ business process requirements, process mapping and future-state design throughout the SAP S/4HANA implementation.
  • Review existing processes and identify opportunities for standardisation, simplification, automation and improved controls.
  • Translate SHEQ operational and regulatory requirements into functional SAP requirements.
  • Review and challenge solution designs, configuration proposals and implementation partner deliverables to ensure business requirements are met.
  • Ensure SHEQ governance, risk management, compliance and internal controls are embedded within the solution.
  • Lead SHEQ master data requirements, data cleansing, migration validation, KPI reporting and dashboard requirements.
  • Coordinate SHEQ testing activities, including system integration testing, user acceptance testing and business process validation.
  • Support change management, user training, cutover planning, go-live readiness and post-implementation stabilisation.
  • Engage with SHEQ leadership, operational sites, IT, data teams, business process owners, implementation partners and risk and compliance stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A degree in Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Quality Management or a related discipline.
  • At least 7-10 years of SHEQ experience within mining, resources, manufacturing or heavy industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in business process improvement, transformation or systems implementation initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of SHEQ management systems, regulatory compliance, operational risk and internal controls.
  • Experience working across complex, multi-site organisations.
  • The ability to gather business requirements, facilitate workshops, make process design decisions and influence stakeholders across functions.
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving and change management skills.

Advantageous:

  • Hands-on involvement in SAP S/4HANA or other ERP implementations, particularly SAP EHS, Incident Management, Risk Assessment, Compliance, Plant Maintenance, Materials Management, Quality Management or SAP reporting and analytics.
