Job Description

Key Deliverables

Reporting

  • Investigate, verify and report accurate, balanced and timely news stories that are relevant to the public and aligned with organisational editorial standards.
  • Apply a multiplatform approach to reporting by developing content appropriate for television, digital, social media and other relevant platforms.
  • Deliver professional live and recorded reports from the field and studio that demonstrate accuracy, objectivity, depth and strong editorial judgement.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to breaking news events and developing stories across relevant platforms.
  • Provide regular and accurate updates to the News Desk on story progress, developments and potential delays.
  • Deliver assigned stories within agreed editorial, production and publishing deadlines while maintaining high journalistic standards.
  • Contribute toward forward planning and event planning diaries.
  • Maintain professional communication, appearance and conduct when representing the organisation.

Television Reporting

  • Produce accurate, compelling and broadcast-ready television packages that meet organisational editorial standards.
  • Deliver professional live reports and field crossings that provide timely and informative coverage.
  • Write clear, concise and engaging television scripts that effectively communicate the story.
  • Record professional piece-to-camera segments that enhance audience understanding and engagement.
  • Collaborate effectively with Camera Operators, Editors, Producers and other production personnel throughout the production process.
  • Adapt reporting and packages to support rolling news coverage and changing editorial priorities.
  • Ensure television content is delivered within agreed editorial and production deadlines.

Digital Journalism and Multiplatform Content

  • Produce digital-first content that complements television reporting and supports the organisation's multiplatform news strategy.
  • Publish or provide verified breaking news updates promptly for digital platforms as developments occur.
  • Produce mobile-friendly articles, short-form video, vertical video, social media content, podcasts and other appropriate digital formats.
  • Update developing stories throughout the day to ensure digital audiences receive timely and accurate information.
  • Develop digital explainers and multimedia content that improve audience understanding of complex or developing stories.
  • Capture and provide appropriate photographs, video and other visual assets for digital and social media publication.
  • Adapt storytelling and content formats appropriately to maximise audience reach, relevance and engagement across platforms.

Interviews and Newsgathering

  • Conduct well-prepared live, recorded, remote and telephonic interviews that contribute to accurate, balanced and compelling reporting.
  • Identify and secure relevant sources, experts, eyewitnesses, authorities, newsmakers and other persons with knowledge of the story.
  • Prepare interviewees and Camera Operators appropriately to support professional and effective interview execution.
  • Ask informed, probing and relevant questions and use appropriate follow-up questioning to develop meaningful responses.
  • Ensure interviews incorporate relevant and diverse perspectives to support balanced and comprehensive reporting.

Research and Story Development

  • Identify, investigate and verify newsworthy stories, events, leads and developments using credible and reliable sources.
  • Conduct thorough research to develop accurate, relevant and compelling news stories and reporting angles.
  • Participate actively in editorial planning and diary meetings by contributing researched story ideas, developments and potential exclusive opportunities.
  • Monitor news wires, electronic media, social media and other credible sources to identify emerging stories and developments.
  • Research and prepare scripts and supporting information to ensure reporting is factual, accurate and appropriately contextualised.
  • Identify and develop exclusive, distinctive and unique storytelling opportunities that add editorial value.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local, national and international news and developments relevant to assigned reporting areas.

Personal Development

  • Maintain and actively implement an Individual Development Plan aligned with professional and organisational objectives.
  • Participate in approved learning and development initiatives that strengthen journalism, broadcasting, digital media and reporting capabilities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of current affairs, media trends, emerging technologies and developments affecting the journalism industry.
  • Participate actively in peer learning, mentoring and newsroom knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Seek and apply constructive feedback to improve reporting, storytelling and professional performance.
  • Apply newly acquired knowledge and skills to improve editorial quality, multiplatform content and reporting effectiveness.

Stakeholder Relationships and Networking

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Editors, Producers, Camera Operators, Digital teams and other newsroom stakeholders to support effective reporting.
  • Develop and maintain a credible network of sources and contacts that supports accurate, timely and distinctive newsgathering. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate timely access to information, interviews and reporting opportunities.
  • Collaborate effectively with newsroom and production teams to coordinate story development and multiplatform content delivery.
  • Manage competing assignments and reporting priorities effectively to support efficient newsroom operations and minimise avoidable delays.
  • Represent the organisation professionally when engaging with sources, stakeholders, public officials, organisations and members of the public.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative newsroom environment that supports high-quality journalism and organisational objectives.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements 

Requirements

  • News, Television, and/or Broadcast Journalism - Operational - 5 Years - Essential 


  • Driver's License - Code B - Essential

Technology Proficiency

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - Intermediate 
  • Dalet or any other NRCS - Intermediate 

Language Proficiency

  • English - Advanced
