Pump Operator

To operate, monitor and maintain pumping equipment and related systems to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of slurry in line with operational requirements. The Pump Operator is responsible for conducting equipment inspections, identifying and reporting defects, supporting maintenance activities, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with safety, environmental and quality standards. The role contributes to achieving production targets by maintaining the reliability and availability of pumping infrastructure

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Pump Operations and Monitoring
• Operate and monitor pumps, pipelines and associated equipment.
• Monitor equipment performance and report abnormalities.

Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Support

• Conduct routine inspections of pumps, pipelines, valves and related equipment.
• Identify and report equipment defects, leaks and unsafe conditions.
• Assist maintenance teams during planned and breakdown maintenance activities.

Safety, Health and Environmental Compliance

• Report unsafe acts, conditions and incidents.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards.
• Support environmental compliance initiatives.

Reporting and Administration

• Complete daily operational records accurately and on time.
• Record equipment readings, inspections and operational data.
• Report production, equipment and safety information to supervisors.

Production Support

• Support operational and production targets.
• Minimise downtime through proactive monitoring.
• Ensure efficient and responsible operation of equipmen

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate.
• Relevant mining, plant operation or pump operation training will be advantageous.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a mining, processing plant, hydro-sluicing or similar operational environment.
• Experience operating and monitoring pumps and associated equipment.
• Experience conducting inspections and reporting equipment defects.
• Exposure to PLC-controlled systems will be advantageous.

SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Basic understanding of pumping systems and operational processes.
• Knowledge of mine health and safety requirements.
• Ability to identify equipment defects and operational risks.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to complete operational records accurately.
• Good problem-solving and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer literacy will be advantageous.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

• Must be medically fit to work in a mining environment.
• Required to work shifts, weekends and overtime when operationally required.
• Required to work outdoors and in varied weather conditions.
• Must wear prescribed personal protective equipment.
• May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces where authorised.
