Department of Local Government, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to render a secretarial support service to the Head of Department. The successful incumbent must be willing to travel when required and ability to work after hours and outside normal office hours when required.
R 338 106 – R 398 277 per annum (Salary level 7)
Note on remuneration in addition service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

All shortlisted candidates shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.

Provide a secretarial/receptionist support service to the manager; Render administrative support services to the manager; Provide support to manager regarding meetings; Support the manager with the administration of the manager’s budget; Study the relevant Public Service and departmental prescripts/ policies and other documents and ensure that the application thereof is understood properly.
Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification) plus an accredited secretarial diploma and/or administrative qualification on the level of NQF level 5 or relevant higher tertiary qualification; A minimum of 3 years experience in rendering secretarial/ administrative support services to management/ senior management.
Knowledge of the following: In-depth knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation / policies / prescripts and procedures; Financial administration; Professional ethics, integrity, confidentiality and discretion; Effective time Management and ability to meet deadlines; Excellent interpersonal relations; Planning, organising and coordinating tasks effectively; Sound judgement and decision-making; Customer service orientation. Skills in the following: Excellent telephone etiquette; Computer literacy in MS Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook and Internet); Financial Management; Strong Language and Communication Skills (written and verbal); Good interpersonal and people-management skills; High level of reliability and dependability; Sound organisational and planning skills; Ability to act with tact and discretion; Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement in handling sensitive matters; Self-management and self-motivation; Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities; Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
