An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Payroll Accountant to join a well-established organisation within the FMCG industry, based in the Cape Town Waterfront. The successful candidate will be responsible for the financial accounting, reconciliation and control of payroll transactions across multiple payroll cycles, including weekly, monthly and fleet payrolls. This role is ideally suited to a detail-oriented finance professional with strong payroll accounting knowledge, sound technical skills and the ability to ensure accurate financial reporting and statutory compliance. Apply through Salix Recruitment. Duties: Prepare and process payroll journals across weekly, monthly and fleet payroll cycles. Manage payroll-related general ledger entries and ensure accurate financial reporting. Perform monthly reconciliations of salaries, wages, employee liabilities and third-party accounts. Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and reconciling items. Prepare and submit EMP201 returns and assist with bi-annual and annual EMP501 reconciliations. Ensure accurate accounting and compliance relating to PAYE, UIF and SDL. Manage reconciliations and payments to medical aids, pension and provident funds, garnishees and other third-party providers. Conduct payroll variance analysis and investigate significant movements in payroll costs. Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits. Identify opportunities to improve payroll accounting processes, controls and efficiencies. Collaborate with payroll and finance teams to ensure the integrity of payroll-related financial information. Job Experience & Skills Required: Qualifications: Matric (Grade 12) BCom Degree in Finance or Accounting Experience: 3-5 years' relevant payroll accounting experience. Good understanding of payroll accounting, employee taxes, benefits and statutory deductions. Practical experience with EMP201 and EMP501 reconciliations. Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and reconciliations. Skills & Competencies: Advanced Excel proficiency. Advanced SAGE 300 experience would be advantageous. Strong numerical and analytical abilities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent time management and ability to work towards strict deadlines. Ability to collaborate effectively with payroll and finance teams. High levels of integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information. Strong organisational and communication skills.
