Responsibilities
- Operate ambulances and other company equipment safely and efficiently
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and laws pertaining to but not limited to protocols, standard of care, motor, vehicle operations, and patient rights, as well as all Robben Island Museum Ambulance rules, policies, directives, or instructions from management
- Prepare inventories, stocks supply and inspect equipment for proper operation
- Maintain professional, pleasant and polite demeanour, demonstrating courteous and ethical behaviour
- Demonstrate the attitude of a Health Care Professional to include, but not limited to, maintaining personal hygiene, a clean appearance and in complete uniform
- Work cooperatively with other members of the EMS Health Care System and key stakeholders
- Demonstrate a sincere desire to continually improve and upgrade the skills and knowledge of the emergency medical profession
- Demonstrate the ability to safely lift, transfer, and manoeuvre patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations
- Render competent patients, family members, medical personnel, co-workers, and the public in verbal and written form, effectively and professionally
- Demonstrate knowledge and compliance with local, state, and regional emergency medical service operations
- Demonstrate, by attendance and documentation, compliance with the Robben Island Museum and/or the Department of Health requirements for continuing education and licensure
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to function in the System Status Management program
- Ensure that accurate records and documentation regarding transport, equipment inspection, supplies usage incidents, and other forms of documentation inherent in the operation are completed and maintained
- Promote health initiatives, performing public relations as well as standby coverage at special events when assigned
- Deliver medical supplies, equipment and other related details when assigned
- Inspect and promptly report damage, deficiencies, safety issues or other problems with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment and supplies, or any other matters relevant to the safe, efficient, and proper operation of the company
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information pertaining to company policies, pricing, contract terms, trade secrets, competitive information, strategic information, patient data, forms, manuals, charts, employee data, or any other sensitive or confidential information obtained while employed in the Ambulance services
Minimum Requirements:
- National Higher Certificate (NQF 5) or equivalent
- Valid State Basic Life Support Paramedic License and Certification
- Valid CPD letter
- Valid Driver’s License C1 with valid PDP
- Registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa
Work Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as Paramedic (BLS)
- At least 2 years of driving experience, with acceptable proven referenced driving record
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure

- Ability to apply mathematical skills, add, subtract, multiply, and divide
