Network Planner (FTTH)

POSITION STATEMENT 

Responsible for the end-to-end design and planning of core network infrastructure, ensuring all outputs are aligned with national standards and meet the strategic and operational requirements of the business.The primary focus will be to develop cost-effective, high-quality, and execution-ready documentation that supports the accurate deployment of Core Network infrastructure. This includes working closely with planning and implementation teams to ensure that design submissions are practical, scalable, and future proof.

This role requires self-motivation and continuous learning to stay current with evolving fibre optic technologies, while maintaining a structured, detail-oriented approach to various deployment practices to ensure effective collaboration with technical and operational teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create quality Premise Data (PD), High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Drawings (LLDs), Splicing & Duct diagrams, Patch Plans (PP) and As Builts (AB)
• Planning done on time
• Planning done within budget
• Ensure compliance to client standards
• Coordinate with internal departments, clients, and external contractors to align planning activities with project requirements.
• Capture project progress on CRM Tool (e.g. Quickbase, Fusion)
• Assist in the preparation of project costing, create BOQs, and rate cards to support commercial viability.

COMPETENCY LEVELS

• GIS Tools: Advanced
• GPON Design: Advanced
• BoQ / Costing: Intermediate

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Competent GIS/AutoCAD
• GPON split ratios
• Civil works knowledge
• Reporting
• MS Office (Intermediate Excel)

QUALIFICATIONS

• Matric (Grade 12)
• Diploma/Degree in Telecoms/IT/Engineering (Preferred)
• Fibre planning cert (Preferred)
• FOA CFOT (preferred)
• GIS short course (e.g. ESRI)

EXPERIENCE

• 3–6 years in FTTx planning
• Some on site experience preferred
