POSITION INFO:
A leading power‑generation engineering company in Cape Town is seeking a skilled Mechanical Draughtsman to join their technical team. This is a full‑time, on‑site role suited to someone who is detail‑driven, organised, and confident working within a fast‑paced, engineering‑focused environment. Role overview: The Mechanical Draughtsman will be responsible for producing accurate, high‑quality mechanical and engineering drawings for generator sets and related components. They will translate design concepts into clear, manufacturable documentation, ensuring compliance with internal standards and industry regulations. This role requires close collaboration with project managers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to clarify specifications, resolve design issues, and support efficient production and installation. They will also assist with costing, supplier coordination, and continuous improvement of design documentation. Key responsibilities: Draft and develop new mechanical and engineering drawings for costing and production. Prepare detailed layouts, assembly drawings, and technical documentation. Assist with costing and estimating for tenders and quotations. Support manufacturing teams with design interpretation and implementation. Liaise with suppliers for order processing, procurement, and technical clarifications. Conduct site visits with sales and installation teams to obtain accurate measurements. Maintain drawing records and contribute to continuous improvement of design standards. Ensure all designs reflect performance, safety, and environmental requirements. Minimum requirements: National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or BTech in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering. 1 to 2 years’ experience in a technical or engineering environment. 1 to 2 years’ experience with sheet metal design and manufacturing. Proficiency in SolidWorks and DraftSight. Strong understanding of mechanical and engineering drawing standards, tolerances, and dimensioning. Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, schematics and bills of materials. High attention to detail, accuracy and organisational ability. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Personal Attributes: Proactive and solutions‑driven. Strong technical aptitude and problem‑solving ability. Comfortable working in a structured, engineering‑focused environment. Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Keen eye for detail and commitment to quality.
