The Role: Legal Specialist The Legal Specialist role exists to consult on data protection and compliance while providing practical, business-focused legal advice on commercial, corporate, and general legal matters . Working closely with sales, product, compliance, and operations teams, the role contributes to the business by supporting business initiatives and balancing legal requirements with company objectives to drive success . Key focus areas include identifying and assessing legal risks, ensuring contracts follow internal policies and processes, assisting with privacy-related matters, and supporting the legal aspects of compliance with frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR . Key Responsibilities Partner with sales, product, compliance, and operations teams to support business initiatives . Assist in providing practical, business-focused legal advice on commercial, corporate, and general legal matters . Help identify and assess legal risks, and escalate where needed . Help ensure contracts follow internal policies and processes . Support the legal aspects of compliance with frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR . Assist with data protection and privacy-related matters, including consulting around data protection and compliance . About You LLB (or equivalent law degree) and admitted attorney in South Africa . Proven ability to independently draft, negotiate, and review legal agreements . Experience with tech law . Native-level English proficiency, as most legal work is conducted in English . Business acumen to balance legal requirements with company objectives . Strong organizational and analytical capabilities . Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills . Proactive and detail-oriented . An interest in data protection law and information technology law .
