Purpose of the role
Take ownership of a portfolio of smaller enterprise clients with less complex requirements and more limited anticipated growth. Provide responsive, consistent account management, retain existing business and proactively identify appropriate growth opportunities through predominantly telephone, email and online engagement. This junior commercial role carries a lower sales target than senior sellers and offers a structured development path towards an Account Manager or Business Development Executive role, aligned to performance, demonstrated strengths and business requirements.
Key Responsibilites
- Portfolio ownership. Manage the day-to-day commercial relationship for allocated clients. Maintain current contacts, understand each client’s deployment and needs, and agree a practical contact and follow-up cadence.
- Client retention and renewals. Track contract expiry dates and notice periods, initiate renewal discussions in good time, prepare accurate documentation and coordinate approvals and signatures. Identify retention risks early and escalate where support is needed.
- Proactive selling. Look for additional requirements within the portfolio and pursue suitable smaller new-business opportunities assigned or agreed with the manager. Ask effective discovery questions, qualify needs and follow opportunities through to an agreed outcome.
- Sales delivery. Work towards an agreed sales target appropriate to the portfolio and junior level. Maintain an active pipeline, follow up quotations and provide realistic forecasts and progress updates.
- Team support. Assist with selected renewals and cancellations for other team members, as allocated by the manager. Confirm the scope, account owner, deadlines and handover requirements for each request.
- Cancellation coordination. Clarify and record the reason for cancellation, explore suitable retention options and coordinate authorised changes with the relevant internal teams. Track requests through to completion and ensure the client receives clear updates.
- Commercial administration. Prepare and check quotations, proposals, service orders and supporting records. Keep CRM contacts, activities, opportunities and contract milestones accurate and current. Work within approved pricing, terms and delegated authority.
- Internal collaboration. Coordinate with Solutions, Sales Operations, Finance, Legal, Operations and Customer Experience to resolve queries and progress requests. Escalate complex technical or commercial matters and flag accounts showing greater strategic potential.
