Java Systems Engineer

SUMMARY:
This is an opportunity for a technically exceptional Java engineer who wants more than just writing code. You will work closely with senior technology leadership, influence architecture decisions, challenge technical approaches, and gradually take ownership of larger parts of the engineering landscape.
This role is suited to someone who is still hands-on, loves solving difficult technical problems, and has the confidence to make tough engineering decisions. You won't just maintain systems — you will help define how they are built.

POSITION INFO:
Duties \/ Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and improve complex Java-based systems and APIs. Own technical decisions around architecture, scalability, and engineering standards. Review code and challenge technical approaches to ensure quality and maintainability. Work closely with developers to raise engineering practices and solve difficult problems. Build and influence cloud-based solutions across modern technology environments. Research and introduce technologies that improve product capability. Support DevOps practices, deployments, testing, and production stability. Partner with the CTO on technical strategy and gradually take ownership of broader technology responsibilities. Requirements Strong hands-on Java development experience. Deep understanding of software engineering principles, architecture patterns, and system design. Experience building scalable systems, APIs, and distributed applications. Cloud experience (AWS and\/or Azure). Comfortable making difficult technical decisions and challenging existing approaches. Experience mentoring developers or acting as a technical authority. Exposure to web technologies (Angular\/TypeScript advantageous). Someone who prefers building and solving over managing meetings. Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field required. Engineering degree highly preferred. Soft Skills Strong technical judgement and confidence. Curious, analytical, and willing to challenge assumptions. Comfortable taking ownership and operating independently. Able to influence developers through credibility and technical depth.
