At Daily Maverick, we believe that truth matters and independent journalism is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy. Through our live journalism events, webinars, print media, books, and podcasts, we bridge the gap between our newsroom, high-level decision-makers, and a fiercely loyal reader community.

If you are eager to kickstart your career in media, love the energy of live production, and want to learn how events directly fuel independent journalism and audience growth, this is your place.

Why Join Us?

  • Real-World Impact: Every event you work on helps amplify independent, investigative reporting in South Africa.

  • Unmatched Exposure: Connect directly with leading journalists, editors, public figures, and industry experts.

  • Accelerated Growth: Gain a full spectrum of event production and media marketing skills in a supportive, high-performing newsroom environment.

1. Live Event & Webinar Production

  • End-to-End Event Operations: Learn how to plan, set up, and execute live journalism events and digital webinars from start to finish.

  • Speaker & Panelist Coordination: Develop skills in managing high-level speakers and guests, including hosting pre-event technical dry runs and sending panel briefs.

  • Logistics & Supplier Management: Gain hands-on experience in coordinating venue setups, technical requirements, and liaising with vendors under live conditions.

  • On-the-Day Troubleshooting: Build real-time problem-solving skills by assisting with technical support and smooth operational execution during live broadcasts.

2. Event Marketing & Digital Promotion

  • Campaign Execution: Learn how to deploy event promotional assets across multiple channels, including newsletters, site banners, and social media.

  • Creative Collaboration: Work alongside designers and content creators to ensure all event collateral adheres strictly to Daily Maverick’s visual identity.

  • Analytics & Performance Tracking: Learn how to measure event marketing success by tracking registration-to-attendance rates and compiling post-event performance summaries.

3. Audience Engagement & Brand Representation

  • Community Hosting: Master live audience management during webinars, including moderating chats, facilitating Q&A sessions, and supporting the user experience.

  • Product Cross-Promotion: Discover how events connect with the broader Daily Maverick ecosystem (DM168, Maverick451 books, podcasts, and merchandise).

  • Brand Ambassadorship: Learn how to represent a leading media brand professionally in all interactions with panelists, vendors, and our reader community.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Tech-Savvy & Adaptable: Comfortable learning digital webinar platforms (e.g., Zoom Events, YouTube Live), social media tools, and basic data tracking systems.

  • High Attention to Detail: Precise, organized, and thorough. You catch the small things before they become big issues.

  • Bias for Action: An energetic, solution-oriented mindset that thrives in unscripted, time-bound environments.
