Intermediate Java Developer (Contract)

A South African IT services, software development, and digital consulting company, is seeking an Intermediate Java Developer who will work on a large-scale telecommunications BSS modernisation programme. Excellent opportunity to gain high-impact enterprise telecoms experience.

Responsibilities:

• Development & Maintenance: Build and maintain Java services on a large-scale billing and operations platform.

• Database Management: Write and optimise complex SQL queries across multiple database engines.

• Deployment & Integration: Deploy and support containerised services on Linux; integrate systems using message queues and enterprise integration patterns.

• Agile Delivery: Deliver within a Scrum/Agile framework using Git.

• Testing & Support: Facilitate FAT and UAT sessions directly with client teams.

• Education: Relevant IT degree (BSc Computer Science, BSc IT, or similar).

• Experience: 4–6 years of commercial Java development experience.

• Core Tech Stack:

  • Java Ecosystem: Java, J2EE, Spring, J2EE containers/web servers.

  • Databases & SQL: Deep SQL optimisation across MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

  • OS & DevOps: Linux, Bash scripting, server administration, Docker, and Kubernetes.

  • Messaging & Tooling: RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ, Git, Postman.

  • Process & Testing: Scrum/Agile delivery, FAT/UAT facilitation.

• Nice-to-Have / Advantageous

  • Telecoms BSS/OSS domain experience.

  • Apache Camel.

  • Oracle PL/SQL & APEX.

  • Basic HTML/CSS.
