General Manager

SUMMARY:
Our client is seeking an experienced and results-driven General Manager to lead and oversee the full operation of its steel rolling mill in Mauritius. This strategic leadership role carries full responsibility for the mill's profitability, cash flow, operational performance, and long-term growth. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the business, from billet procurement and production through to finishing, sales, and dispatch, while ensuring operational excellence, safety, quality, and commercial success.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned leader within the steel, rolling mill, or heavy manufacturing sector who is eager to make a significant impact in a dynamic environment. Applicants must be willing to relocate to Mauritius.

POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Engineering , Metallurgy , or a related Industrial discipline Minimum 10 years' experience within the steel, rolling mill, or heavy manufacturing industry At least 5 years' experience in a senior management or General Management role Proven experience managing P&L, budgeting, financial performance, and working capital Strong commercial acumen with experience in sales, pricing strategies, procurement, imports, and trade finance Sound knowledge of SHEQ systems and ISO standards Excellent leadership, decision-making, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills Strong business development and operational management capabilities Willingness to undergo annual medical examinations, including eye, hearing, and lung assessments Must be willing to relocate to Mauritius Key Responsibilities Assume full accountability for the business's profit and loss performance , including revenue growth, operating costs, gross margins, and EBITDA Develop and execute the company's strategic business plans, annual budgets, and operational objectives Drive production efficiency, product quality, plant reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives Lead rolling mill operations, maintenance strategies, and production planning to achieve output and quality targets Manage sales growth, pricing strategies, tender processes, and key customer relationships to expand market share Oversee procurement activities, ensuring the cost-effective sourcing of billets, consumables, spares, and imported materials Manage working capital, debtor and creditor functions, foreign exchange exposure, loans, and letters of credit Ensure compliance with all SHEQ requirements and maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications while driving additional accreditation initiatives Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing management team and workforce Promote a positive workplace culture and maintain effective labour relations Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, financial institutions, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders Monitor business performance and implement strategies to improve profitability, operational efficiency, and sustainability
