Background

Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a not-for-profit institution that exhibits, collects, preserves, and researches contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora; conceives and hosts international exhibitions; develops supporting educational, discursive and enriching programmes; encourages intercultural understanding; and strives for access for all. The museum’s galleries feature rotating, temporary exhibitions with a dedicated space for the permanent collection. The institution also includes the Centre for Art Education, the Centre for Moving Image, and a Project Space for emerging artists. It opened to the public in September 2017.

Job Summary
The Fundraising Manager role reports to the Head of Institutional Advancement. The main purpose of this position is by co developing and executing the museum’s fundraising strategy, with a focus on securing donations from local and international organisations, foundations, and individuals. The Fundraising Manager will play a pivotal role in showcasing the museum’s excellence at key events, while building and managing strong donor relationships. The role demands strategic planning, relationship building, management, and exceptional proposal-writing skills to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of the organisation’s programmes.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to

Develop, manage, and implement a strategic fundraising plan with clear income targets across donor categories.
Identify, cultivate, and secure funding from individuals, corporates, trusts, foundations, and international donors.
Build and maintain relationships with existing, prospective, and lapsed donors to support long-term donor engagement and retention.
Manage donor pipelines, identify new funding opportunities, and ensure fundraising proposals align with organisational priorities.
Plan and coordinate fundraising campaigns, events, sponsorships, and partnerships in collaboration with internal teams.
Develop compelling donor communications and support donor visibility and recognition initiatives.
Monitor fundraising performance, income targets, budgets, and return on investment, and report on progress and risks.
Ensure timely donor acknowledgements, impact reporting, and ongoing stewardship.
Maintain accurate donor records and track donor engagement through the CRM system.
Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations, tax requirements, donor agreements, and ethical standards.
Conduct due diligence checks on new donors and partners.
Collaborate with the Finance Manager and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective fundraising operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's or Honours degree in a related field (fundraising, development, communications, etc.)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising or development role
Proven track record of successful fundraising campaigns and donor cultivation

Knowledge and Skills

A proven record of securing major donations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, donor management software, and online fundraising platforms
Knowledge of database management with exposure to any CRM application and proven ability to use these to develop and manage client relationships
Results driven
Strong interpersonal and persuasive skills
Entrepreneurial thinking and innovative planning and execution in fundraising
A seasoned individual with proven leadership skills and an ability to effectively lead a team.
