SUMMARY:
Location: Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town

Work on projects where environmental and social expertise helps shape investment, planning and development decisions across South Africa and the wider African continent.

Our client, a multidisciplinary consultancy, is seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to lead environmental and social assessments, advise clients on complex project risks and provide technical guidance to its Environmental Planning and Advisory team.

The role combines hands-on project delivery with senior client engagement, team support and business development. It offers exposure to projects of varying scale across infrastructure, energy, resources and industrial sectors, with opportunities to contribute to international assignments.

POSITION INFO:
Key responsibilities: Lead and deliver Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and\/or Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) assignments. Advise clients and senior stakeholders on environmental and social matters affecting their projects. Manage work within your technical specialism, taking responsibility for the quality and timely delivery of outputs. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contributing broader environmental and sustainability expertise across projects. Provide technical direction and guidance to colleagues within the Environmental Planning and Advisory team. Build and maintain client relationships and support key account management. Contribute to proposals, marketing initiatives and business development activities. Undertake project-related travel within South Africa and elsewhere in Africa as required. Requirements: A degree in a relevant environmental and\/or social discipline. Established experience as a senior environmental and\/or social specialist, with a track record of leading ESIA and\/or ESDD consulting assignments in South Africa and other African countries. Project experience in sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa, with the ability to travel. EAPASA registration, or evidence that an application is in progress. SACNASP registration would be advantageous. Demonstrable project knowledge across several relevant sectors, including water, mining, renewable energy, roads and rail, ports and marine infrastructure, gas or industrial manufacturing. Broad knowledge of environmental and social disciplines, such as air quality, ecological impacts, climate change, occupational health and safety, resettlement planning and labour practices. This opportunity will suit an experienced consultant who enjoys combining technical delivery with client advisory work and guiding colleagues across a varied project portfolio.
