SUMMARY:
A well-established manufacturing organisation in Middelburg is seeking a qualified and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join their maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing diesel-powered vehicles, mobile equipment and machinery to ensure maximum availability and reliable plant operations.

POSITION INFO:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair work on diesel-powered vehicles, machinery and equipment. Conduct routine servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel engines and associated systems. Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults. Inspect engines, transmissions, braking systems, cooling systems and other mechanical components. Conduct fault-finding using appropriate diagnostic equipment and tools. Carry out engine overhauls, repairs and component replacements where required. Maintain and repair forklifts, mobile equipment, trucks and other diesel-driven machinery. Ensure equipment is maintained according to planned maintenance schedules. Respond to breakdowns and attend to urgent mechanical repairs to minimise production downtime. Complete maintenance records, inspection reports and job cards accurately. Identify potential equipment failures and recommend preventative measures. Assist with the installation, commissioning and maintenance of mechanical equipment where required. Maintain tools, equipment and workshop facilities in good working condition. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with health, safety and environmental procedures. Work closely with the maintenance and production teams to ensure equipment availability. Participate in planned maintenance, shutdowns and standby duties when required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Grade 12 \/ Matric. Qualified Diesel Mechanic with a recognised Trade Test. Relevant experience in a manufacturing, industrial, fleet or heavy-equipment environment. Strong experience in diesel engine maintenance and mechanical fault-finding. Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems will be advantageous. Experience with mobile equipment, forklifts, trucks or industrial diesel machinery will be advantageous. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and mechanical drawings. Valid driver's licence. Good knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES Strong mechanical and technical aptitude. Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills. Good problem-solving ability. Attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure and respond to breakdowns efficiently. Strong commitment to safety, quality and preventative maintenance.
