COUNSELOR

TWELVE (12) MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT

EMAVUNDLENI RESEARCH CLINICAL SITE

The main purpose of this position is to provide counselling to participants who attend the Emavundleni Research Site. The role includes conducting informed consent, HCT, administering of study questionnaires, general research support, assisting with translation, and general administrative work to support the unit.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience, conducting informed consent processes, within a clinical research environment.
  • HIV Counselling certificate
  • GCP certificate
  • Knowledge about HIV, SRH and clinical trials
  • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of email, Microsoft office suite etc.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Fluency in English and IsiXhosa
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Administration skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of the mobile clinic team
  • Client focused and detail-orientated
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct HCT (including pre- and post-HIV test counselling)
  • Provide lifestyle and risk reduction counselling
  • Educate participants, families and community on HIV, infectious diseases and sexual and reproductive health (SRH).
  • Provide general health education to participants, when required.
  • Always maintain confidentiality
  • Conduct study product adherence counselling
  • Obtain and update participant locator information at all visits
  • Assist with BCEPs registration and co-enrolment check, after appropriate consenting.
  • Administer study questionnaires as per study protocol requirements
  • Conduct data collection activities with participants (e.g. CASI)
  • Assist with translation activities when required
  • Assist with all aspects of retention including phone call reminders about upcoming visits, follow-up of missed visits, and home visits when applicable.
  • Complete all study records in real time, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GCP, site-specific SOPS and the study protocol, including real time data entry on electronic medical record systems
  • Ensure quality control of all study documentation, including self and peer QC
