Role Overview:

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious well-balanced high-quality meals to pupils and staff while ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are maintained. The role focuses on supporting the Catering Manager in daily operations, contributing to a smooth and efficient cooking process.

Duties (not an exhaustive list):

• Prepare meals suitable for young children and staff, taking account of nutritional needs and appropriate portion sizes.
• Cater for allergies, intolerances, religious or cultural dietary requirements and other special dietary needs.
• Ensure food is prepared, cooked, stored and served at the correct temperatures.
• Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, taste and presentation.
• Assist with the preparation and service of breakfast, lunch, snacks and other school catering requirements as applicable.
• Ensure meals are ready and served according to the school's timetable.
• Make appropriate use of fresh, seasonal and nutritious ingredients.

Experience and Qualifications

• Matric
• Minimum literacy level of NQF Level ABET 4 (preferably higher)
• Certificate in Culinary Arts is an advantage
• Baking experience and skills will be an advantage
• At least 3 years’ experience as a Cook
• English (Grade 12) comprehension and writing skills to:
  • Understand requisitions and work instructions
  • Converse with pupils and staff
  • Complete HR staff records
• Basic numeracy skills, including:
  • Conducting basic reports
