A leading manufacturing operation in Rosslyn, Pretoria, is seeking a skilled Controls & Instrumentation Technician to join their engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a highly automated production environment where reliability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence are key drivers of success.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, and optimizing control and instrumentation systems that support a large-scale production facility. The company operates within the paper and packaging manufacturing sector, utilizing advanced automation and process control technologies to drive efficiency and quality.


POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Diagnose and resolve faults on instrumentation and control systems. Maintain, calibrate, and repair process instrumentation. Perform fault-finding on PLC, SCADA, and DCS-controlled systems. Support electrical, pneumatic, and process control equipment. Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance activities. Assist with commissioning and integration of new automation equipment. Monitor control loop performance and implement improvements. Ensure compliance with safety, engineering, and maintenance standards. Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and reports. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve plant reliability and efficiency. Minimum Requirements N4 Instrumentation qualification with Trade Test, or National Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 3-5 years' experience within a manufacturing or process plant environment. Experience working with PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and industrial automation systems. Strong knowledge of process control instrumentation. Experience with calibration, fault-finding, and control loop optimization. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and technical schematics. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Advantageous Experience Experience within the paper, packaging, pulp, manufacturing, processing, mining, or heavy industrial sectors. Knowledge of variable speed drives, sensors, analyzers, actuators, and field instrumentation. Exposure to continuous improvement and reliability engineering initiatives.
