We are looking for an experienced Compliance Manager to take ownership of compliance across a General / Short-Term Insurance environment.

POSITION INFO:
This is a hands-on management role for someone who can operate confidently at both strategic and operational level - advising senior stakeholders, challenging where necessary, identifying regulatory risks and then getting involved in making sure issues are actually resolved. You don't need to be equally strong across every regulatory area. Strong experience with either FSCA\/market conduct or Prudential Authority\/prudential regulation will be considered, provided you have solid insurance compliance experience. This role will suit someone who is more than a technical compliance specialist . You should be someone who: Thinks strategically → Understands the regulation → Challenges the business → Finds the problem → Helps fix it. We're looking for a strong communicator who can build relationships without losing their independence, is comfortable having difficult conversations, and can move between senior-level advisory work and hands-on compliance execution. You won't simply be maintaining a compliance framework - you'll have the opportunity to identify what isn't working, challenge it and help build something better. Duties: Lead and manage the second-line compliance function. Develop and maintain the Compliance Risk Management Plan (CRMP) and annual compliance monitoring programme. Conduct and oversee risk-based compliance monitoring, thematic reviews and regulatory assessments. Provide practical regulatory advice to business and senior management. Interpret regulatory developments and translate them into practical business requirements. Identify compliance gaps, investigate findings and drive remediation and corrective actions. Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on the business. Support regulatory submissions, returns, applications and engagements with the FSCA and\/or Prudential Authority. Prepare meaningful compliance reporting for Exco, senior management and relevant governance committees. Provide input into policies, frameworks, controls and governance processes. Build strong relationships with business stakeholders while maintaining the independence required of a second-line function. Lead, coach and develop compliance team members. Challenge business decisions where regulatory or compliance risks are identified. Drive continuous improvement within the compliance environment. Job Experience & Skills Required: Qualifications: Matric (Grade 12) Bachelor's degree in a related field. A professional Compliance or Risk Management qualification\/certification would be advantageous. Membership of a recognised professional compliance or risk management body would be advantageous. Experience: 6+ years' experience in Compliance \/ Regulatory Compliance, ideally within Insurance. Demonstrable experience within General \/ Short-Term Insurance. Strong knowledge of the South African insurance regulatory environment. Practical exposure to FSCA OR Prudential Authority requirements - experience in both is advantageous. Experience with STIA, Insurance Act, Prudential Standards, FAIS, FICA and\/or related insurance legislation. Experience developing or managing CRMPs and compliance monitoring programmes. Experience dealing with regulatory findings, breaches, remediation and regulatory change. Experience preparing reports for Exco, Board, Risk or Compliance Committees. Strong stakeholder management and the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders. Previous experience leading, mentoring or managing compliance professionals.
