POSITION INFO:
Branch Manager - Klerksdorp The purpose of the Manager: Branch role is to lead and manage the overall operational performance of a large branch across the full parcel lifecycle. The role is accountable for ensuring effective service delivery, operational productivity, cost control, governance, compliance, route planning, fleet utilisation and people performance in line with business strategy, client requirements and agreed service levels. The incumbent acts as second-in-command to the Manager: Regional Operations and is responsible for maintaining operational stability, commercial discipline, compliance standards and service effectiveness within a high-volume, complex branch environment. Operational Planning & Implementation • Approved branch operations plan in place before the start of the financial year or agreed operational cycle; reviewed quarterly. • Branch KPIs signed off, cascaded and communicated to relevant teams annually and reviewed monthly. • Branch budget developed, approved and managed within approved tolerance monthly. • Route plans reviewed and adjusted in line with volume, SLA and cost requirements daily and weekly. • Fleet, people, systems and equipment aligned to forecast volumes, route plans and service requirements weekly. • Branch performance reported against plan, budget and KPIs weekly and monthly. • Operational plans adjusted timeously where service, cost, volume or risk variances are identified. Operations Management • Client SLA conformance achieved in line with agreed branch and contractual targets daily, weekly and monthly. • On-Time Performance maintained at greater than 98% against agreed branch and client SLA requirements. • Undelivered freight maintained within agreed branch SLA threshold and reviewed daily. • Late deliveries maintained within agreed SLA threshold and reduced against monthly trend. • Express deliveries actioned within the agreed service window daily. • Damages, losses and theft incidents maintained within agreed branch target, investigated and actioned monthly. • Active PDA device availability maintained at agreed operational target and reviewed daily\/weekly. • Fleet and labour resources aligned to volumes, routes and service requirements daily and weekly. • Fuel consumption, fleet kilometres and vehicle utilisation monitored against branch\/fleet benchmark weekly and monthly. • Vehicle off-road levels managed within agreed fleet target and reviewed daily\/weekly. • Fleet preventative maintenance completed in line with agreed maintenance schedule monthly. • Cartage cost managed within approved budget and monitored against kilograms, parcel count and actual versus budget weekly\/monthly. • Injuries on duty investigated and corrective actions closed within required timelines. • Housekeeping standards maintained against internal branch checklist daily\/weekly. • Operational systems updated accurately and within required processing timelines daily. Governance, Risk & Compliance • No critical audit findings; non-critical findings closed within agreed corrective action timelines. • 100% adherence to applicable ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 branch requirements. • SOP compliance confirmed through operational checks, audits and management reviews monthly\/quarterly. • All third-party providers and outsourced resources operating under approved contracts and SLAs. • Provider SLA performance reviewed monthly and non-conformance actioned within agreed timelines. • Risk, Quality and Compliance systems updated accurately and within required timelines. • Branch risk assessments completed quarterly and reviewed when operational conditions change. • High-value cargo movements and security protocols audited with exceptions investigated and corrective actions tracked to closure. • Corrective and preventive actions implemented with no repeat critical findings. Reporting, Analysis & Decision-Making • Required operational, financial, quality and service reports submitted accurately within agreed daily, weekly and monthly deadlines. • Data accuracy maintained in line with agreed operational standards; exceptions corrected within required timelines. • Operational systems updated and maintained daily to support reliable reporting and decision-making. • Weekly productivity reports analysed and actions implemented to remove bottlenecks. • Operational trends, cost variances, SLA risks and service failures identified, explained and escalated where required. • Corrective actions linked to reporting insights and tracked to closure monthly. • Cost, quality, risk and service reports reviewed with action plans for material variances weekly\/monthly. • Management and client reporting completed within agreed timeframes and stakeholder expectations. Stakeholder Management & Engagement • Client feedback reviewed monthly and action plans implemented for service concerns. • Client SLA performance maintained within agreed contractual targets daily, weekly and monthly. • Zero contract losses attributable to preventable branch service failures. • Client and stakeholder escalations acknowledged, investigated and closed within agreed timelines. • Communication cadence maintained during operational change, peak volume periods and service recovery. • Stakeholder issues tracked to closure with corrective actions implemented where required. • Client retention, service feedback and escalation trends reviewed monthly\/quarterly. People Management • Branch structures developed, approved and reviewed in line with operational requirements. • Role profiles and KPI deliverables aligned to approved branch structures and reviewed annually\/as required. • Employee KPI performance reviewed monthly and addressed through coaching, training or corrective action. • Overtime, headcount and labour costs managed within approved labour budget tolerance weekly\/monthly. • Leave provisions monitored and managed in line with operational requirements monthly. • Vacancies tracked and managed against approved recruitment timelines weekly\/monthly. • Skills gaps identified with development plans implemented for critical operational roles quarterly. • Succession plan in place and reviewed for critical branch roles bi-annually\/annually. • HR and IR matters managed in accordance with company policy, the LRA, BCEA and applicable collective agreements. • Performance, coaching, training and corrective action records maintained accurately and timeously. • Employee communication and operational meeting structures maintained according to agreed cadence. Continuous Improvement • Continuous improvement initiatives implemented with measurable benefit to service, cost, quality, productivity, safety or customer experience monthly\/quarterly. • Improvement initiatives supported by root cause analysis, operational data and measurable baseline\/benefit tracking. • Corrective actions implemented and repeat issues reduced against branch trend monthly\/quarterly. • New initiatives, process improvements or efficiency recommendations proposed and adopted where approved. • Project contribution evidenced through completed actions, progress updates and implemented outcomes. • Process improvements embedded through SOP updates, controls, follow-up routines and KPI monitoring. Experience: • Grade 12 Senior Certificate (Matric). • Relevant diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or a related field. • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Branch Manager 2 role or an equivalent operational management role. • Proven experience managing a large branch environment with a headcount of 250+ employees and a fleet size of 56+ vehicles. • Proven experience managing a complex freight mix across multiple product categories, including Fashion, CIT, HC and CDS. • Experience managing the full parcel lifecycle within a logistics, courier, distribution or branch operations environment. • Experience managing operational budgets, branch KPIs, service levels, fleet utilisation, labour controls and outsourced resources. • Experience managing branch governance, risk, compliance, audit readiness, SOP adherence and Health and Safety requirements. • Experience leading large operational teams, including performance management, labour cost control, employee relations, coaching and succession planning.
