BLOCKMAN – BUTCHERY

Overberg District: Grabouw / Botrivier: A renowned farm stall and tourist stop in the Elgin Valley is looking for an experienced Blockman to join their butchery team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, reliable and experienced Blockman who has a good knowledge of meat cuts and practical experience in a commercial butchery environment. The successful candidate should be confident operating standard butchery equipment and take pride in maintaining high standards of product quality, hygiene and cleanliness.

POSITION INFO:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Cutting and preparing lamb and other meat products according to required specifications Operating a band saw, particularly for lamb cutting Operating a meat mincer and sausage stuffer Assisting with sausage production Assisting with the production of biltong and droëwors Maintaining high standards of product quality, hygiene and food safety Cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas Assisting with general butchery production and customer service as required Working efficiently to meet daily production requirements CRITERIA Previous experience as a Blockman or in a commercial butchery environment Good practical knowledge of different meat cuts Experience operating a band saw, mincer and sausage stuffer Experience with sausage, biltong and droëwors production Good understanding of butchery hygiene and food-handling practices Reliable, hardworking and able to work independently Sober habits are essential Must be willing to work weekends and public holidays Living in Grabouw, Botrivier or the surrounding area is essential Note: This is a hands-on butchery position and applicants must have practical commercial butchery experience and be confident operating the required equipment. Note that consideration will only be given to applicants who are currently resident in Grabouw or Botrivier (Elgin Valley) Staff transport between Grabouw and Botrivier The position requires weekend work One weekday off per week Sundays and public holidays will be paid at double pay Working hours will be in line with the operational requirements of the farmstall and butchery
