Job Advert Summary

We are looking for an assessor who will be able to inspect and technically assess hydraulic cylinders, components and associated equipment to determine condition, dimensions, failure modes, repairability and the required scope of work.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• Review job cards, customer requirements, available drawings, previous repair information and the condition of received hydraulic cylinders/components before assessment.
• Inspect hydraulic cylinder components including barrels/tubes, rods, pistons, glands, threads, grooves, seal areas and associated components for wear, damage and serviceability.
• Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and work accurately from approved samples where drawings are unavailable.
• Determine whether components can be reused, repaired, reconditioned or require replacement, within approved technical standards and authority.
• Identify visible and measurable failure modes including wear, scoring, corrosion, bending, impact damage, contamination, seal-area damage, misalignment and coating/chrome deterioration.
• Escalate unusual, safety-critical or technically uncertain findings to the Estimator or Production Manager – Repairs.
• Use precision instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, dial indicators and coating-thickness equipment.
• Identify and report non-conforming components, measurements or conditions in accordance with quality procedures to the customer before the components are repaired prior to work being commenced.
• Provide clear damage reports, scopes of work and technical information to machining, repair, planning and quotation functions.
• Comply with applicable occupational health and safety requirements, company procedures and workshop rules.
• Keep technical knowledge current regarding hydraulic cylinder repair practices, materials, coatings, sealing and relevant engineering technologies.

• Recognised Trade Test / National Trade Qualification in Fitting and Turning, Machining, Mechanical Fitting or another relevant mechanical trade will be advantageous.
• 5 years' relevant experience in hydraulic cylinder repair, precision engineering, machining or a related mechanical workshop environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and technical specifications.
• Cylinder /-components manufacturing experience.
• Must be able to work under pressure.
• Must be able to meet strict deadlines.
• Must be willing to work overtime.
• Good attention to detail.
