Analyst Research Asset Management

 

To conduct research on consumer and other companies as required by Absa Asset Management (ABAM) team by constructing valuation models, forecasting earnings and rating of management companies. Provide support to the Chief Investment Officer in managing investment portfolios.
Accountability: Research on consumer industrial companies:
  • Maintain valuation models for the consumer industrial companies/African listings using excel spreadsheets to analysis to ascertain financial prospects.
  • Forecast earnings and dividends for the consumer industrial companies/African listings by monitoring all SENS (Stock Exchange New Service) and other financial publications, interacting with company management, monitoring economic publications and other relevant research sources, attending site visits, and interacting with industry specialists.
  • Maintain the consumer industrials component of the ABAM equity-ranking table by contributing to debates on relative company valuations at equity research meetings.
  • Contribute to overall equity returns by providing support to the Chief Investment
Officer (CIO) in selecting profitable companies to invest appropriate amounts timeously.
  • Provide input to the "best ideas portfolio" database housed in ABAM for use by Portfolio Managers in generating high income returns to investors.
  • Provide general support for the investment process in improving and enhancing ABAM capabilities to process and deliver timeous investment transactions as per the portfolio mandates.
Accountability: Asset Allocation Meetings:
  • Provide input in asset allocation meetings on appropriate asset allocation for client portfolios, after considering specific consumer industrial sector conditions and general economic data as collated from business magazines, investment periodicals and internet research.
  • Review general economic reports in order to participate in discussions on general investment matters during industry forums and investment seminars.
  • Attend presentations (internally/externally) on the economy and strategic research in order to gain latest trends in the market and present this information in the asset allocation meetings for use by Portfolio Managers in decision-making.
  • Take notes as appropriate of investment decisions taken during the meeting and distribute accordingly to all members.
  • Prepare presentations on PowerPoint to team on selected topics and quality assure on the accuracy and content relevance.
Accountability: Providing Marketing Support:
  • Participate in marketing presentations to potential and existing clients by producing appropriate PowerPoint presentations and answering client technical queries on ABAM consumer industrial and other sectors' research
  • Assist the CIO in preparing PowerPoint and other presentations to clients by providing research analysis on investment portfolios and check relevance in relation to the topic being covered in the presentation.
  • Research investment topics as requested by the Portfolio Managers for presentations to clients in investments sales pitch for business and feedback/update sessions.
  • Support the investment team in preparing research reports by extracting relevant information; analyzing; forecasting trends and impact on investment portfolios
  • In order to render an intermediary service under FAIS and the roles to be
FAIS affected, the role profiles need to be reflective of the services that they will be rendering e.g. Discretionary portfolio management
Education and experience required:

 

  • BCom or Business Science Degree Accounting NQF level 6
  • A Chartered Financial Analyst certificate or equivalent to NQF level 8
  • Ten (10) years’ experience
  • In research as a consumer industrial analyst within a Financial Services environment or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Understanding of relevant accounting, IFRS

  • Computer and modelling skills
